I don't pay much attention to web hosting review sites. They are always biased some way or other. I rather go to large forums and ask people personally about a hosting service. I find it much more reliable.

@keiffer: It is better to ask around than to rely on these web hosting review sites. Some of them may be giving rave reviews because they are paid to do so, but then again maybe not. The important thing is to ask from experienced people whom you can rely on to give you all the facts.

Yea, many of them are paid to get reviews it is better getting personal advice from a friend or relative that has been hosted for awhile or someone that you can trust will provide you good hosting advice.

Most of the web hosting review sites these days get bribed or "Paid Advertising" as they call it to have their site at the top of the list.

Yea, plus some of the hosting review sites pay other members to review the web hosts because the web hosts pay them for good reviews and such so then it makes all the reviews in legit.

Hostrocket and Host Nine are two good ones. I reccomend Hostrocket as I had 3 yrs good experience with them before going on to a reseller with Host Nine.

I don't know about that hosting review site, they may be paid to write a good review. I use hostgator and they are pretty good and cheap. Also their hosting service is pretty reliable with a 99.9% uptime.

Yeah, you should not totally rely on any hosting review sites better ask for your host at different hosting forums as WHT or DP, webmasters will share their experiences about them and you can choose the best host.

Yea, usually those aren't very reliable.

Also usually the best thing is if you ask a family member or friend so you can get one on one experience on what they have had. So that you can trust the person giving you help otherwise www.webhostingtalk.com is the best.

Webhosting is big business these days and it's true (as some of you have already mentioned) that a lot of 'reviews' aren't actually unbiased because they are only posing as reviews but actually only for the purpose of promoting them. I've seen an entire website, promoted via adwords that had a list of the 'Top 10 Best WebHosts'. There was a list of webhosts and not a review but a product comparison chart and every link was... yup you guessed it, an affiliate link!

It is best to go to the forums like SitePoint and Digital Point and even here and ask people what their experience is. If you are considering a host it's a really good idea to open a thread asking if others have any experience with that host. Use the replies as a guideline to make your choice.

I use sites like Webhostingtalk or Webhostingresourcekit to find information about good web hosts. Affiliate links will not go away ever, but if you keep your eyes open and use common sense you will be able to find the gems out there.
