I am looking for a response from a DMOZ editor. I realize the site is not functioning, or is under new cronstruction and they aren't taking applications right now. Still, I would like to know what the qualifiations are and how much work is involved.

We are looking for editors who are primarily interested in helping build the directory. A good candidate is someone who fills out the application properly, gives three good websites, reviews the sites, writes grammatically correct sentences, and checks their spelling. I've always felt that if an editor can't take the time to locate three unique websites, review them, and write a decent description . . they probably don't care too much about being an editor.

We receive numerous applications from people who give only one website or fail to write a good description.

You should also chose a category that you are familiar with and can find websites for. We are not all that interested in candidates who only join to add their website.

Find a category that will not overwhelm you when you first begin. We often recommend that people start in a Regional category, such as the town that you live in. If you can demonstrate an ability to add good sites to your location category than you become eligible for more categories.

It's really not as difficult to become an editor as some report. But we do want people who are interested in finding and adding good websites, building categories, that demonstrate good writing skills, and most of all . . who are honest in their contributions.
