It can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 4 months to start showing on google and some other engines.

No it takes a matter of days. google crawls through all sites daily. what takes a long time is climbing to the top of the list. Sites at the top often pay to be there. Also if you google "seo" (search engine optimisation) you will find tips on how to get your site to the top of the list, including metataging.

it might take a while. msn, yahoo, or google would send their spiders to go into your site.. checking from time to time. but i would recommend you to always update your site to increase traffic. other than that, you could always use internet advertisements

Everyone is kind of right.

If you just submit it like you have, it may take weeks or months. The best way for search engines to find it quickly is to have other sites link to you. The search engines will follow the links and index your site.

Then, to move up the results pages, you need to have good, changing, keyword rich content in relevant places on your pages. To move up even more, you need good sites with your keywords linking to you.

It doesn't take too long for your site to display when asked for by name (e.g., your company is "ABC Corp" and someone searches for ABC Corp). The flip side is it does take a long time (generally) for your site to display high for keyword searches (i.e., ABC Company is a Florida Law Firm and someone searches florida lawyer, your site will have a lot of competition and you will have a lot of optimization and back link cultivation to do).

It is not easy work by any means; but, don't run off and hire someone to so it. Search for "search engine optimization" for all the free reading you will ever need on the subject. Then, link to those people as a "thank you".

Some suggest that people need to pay to have their sites to at the top on search results. That alone does not matter. I think you must also have good traffic in your site so that you can sustain. So try to enhance your layout and innovate something in your site and attract the crowd.

Also it may take weeks to nearly a month to index a site. This is due to the large list of sites to crawl.

One of my site was indexed within couple of weeks. But another site indexed after 4 weeks. It all depends how you linked this site to different sites...Regarding MSN, most of the sites will be indexed within a week, but blogspot may take months to get indexed... ( I don't know why...)

If you have some strong links pointing to your new site, it will take only a couple of days

I agree. Most, if not all, top SEO experts I've learned from say you should never submit your site directly to Google. It's always much better and easier to let Google 'find' your site through a site it already has indexed.

Props to you. Those help out a TON!

Anyways, it'll take a few weeks if not already crawling before then
