i like google.If I remember correctly then Google states that PageRank will have no effect on the traffic they send to a site. I might be remembering wrongly or it might just be so. So before I start spending nights on getting backlinks, what do you guys think about this? Will a high PR improve traffic? (like 6 or 7) - I'm currently at 5 (down from 6)

PR doesn't matter for your ranking, it is proven many times with sites with low pagerank ranking higher than the relevant sites with high PR. they are just better optimized and have and better and RELEVANT linkbacks.
