There are many seo providers out there. Just google them and use the top ranked!
(If they can't get their own site to be top ranked, then how good are their services?)

Getting as many referral links helps (thats why blogs with lots of links rank highly on google) as also getting as many metadata tags (keywords) as possible.

I also remember someone suggested that he/she wrote lots of related keywords and placed them on the website in the same font colour as the background. This boosted the website's rank while no visitor noticed the words written.

Yahoo and Google no longer work on key words alone.

You could put the word Walmart over a million times into your web page or within your key words, but your ranking will still appear well below the official Walmart site.

Why ? Because both Yahoo and Google also take into account "clicks" i.e. the number of times your link is clicked on. The more clicks the higher your ranking against those keywords.

Altavista still uses "key words" within a page so using the same word over and over again should help boost your ranking.

Don't just go for the well-known search engines. Use the next generation search engines like yareeba.com or lycos.com also in order to maximize your site's exposure.

1)Forum participation - to high PR & frequently crawled sites (your signature with relevant keywords)
2)Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
3)Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
4)Blog participation - to high PR & frequently crawled sites
5)Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites
6)Link Baits - for organic linking
7)Social Bookmarking

There are no best ways applicable for all cases. You need to do it by itself rather 100% percent believe at SEO program. Be careful, sometime SEO can be considered as keyword spamming.

i agree on that... but first you need to optimize your on page... meaning your site structure, title keyword desc.. validate your html. check for broken links and so on... before hitting offpage...

To get top rank to all search engines you only need to focus in just one and which is Google, to get rank in google all you need are backlinks from other high pr websites which are: Directory Submissions, Forum Postings, Social Bookmarkings and etc.
