GPL question

I am trying to modify a script with GPL GNU license. After modification, am I allowed to put my name as designed by ........ . So basically, I will have to change the name from original desinger to my name. Is it allowed?

Yea, most of the GPL licenses have their own rules and such and they should be followed.

Most scripts usually don't allow you to do this and then change the name unless you are just going to add your name to theirs. What script are you talking about?
