Some people just take a sentence like, "Some content here" and paste it over and over to fill in a content block. The trouble with that is the text is too similar... you don't get a real idea how real text is going to flow, how it's going to look with your headline and paragraphs. I'm a real stickler for spaces between paragraphs and readability. Lorem ipsum has the quality of real paragraphs in English.
I've also found that if you are doing design for clients, Lorem Ipsum really helps. At a glance it looks like real content... but they can't read it. It always amazes me how many people focus on the irrelevant details. Instead of focusing on the design and layout (which is what they have asked you to do for them) they focus on the fact that your filler text has a typo in it, or it's not what they want to say... when to you it's obvious that it's just filler text, your client could be focusing on that instead of what you want them to focus on.
The generator creates the number of paragraphs that you want and it's just much handier and quicker than copying and pasting from another document I find.
