But wouldn't it be better if the visitors to your site actually wanted the products you are selling... and were happy to pay for them?
That's the difference that we are talking about with targeted traffic.
Otherwise you can get heaps of visitors and sell nothing. You can't assume that just because people come that they will buy. It's like the old saying, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."
A lot of people on the internet are looking for information, they aren't ready to buy anything yet. A lot of people want things, but they want them for free (and doesn't the internet really spoil us there? Lots of people expect things for free).
Then there are people who know what they want (they've already found their information and read about it - they've done their research) and they are ready to buy it. Those are the people you really want to visit your site.
If you focus your efforts on just getting any random traffic then you will have... lots of traffic, but probably not many sales. In fact, if that's where you focus all your efforts, just getting any old traffic, you will probably miss the people who are looking to
buy exactly what you are selling.
