| It seems to me that your "friends" really do not know a lot about the music you are trying to share with them. Media has a lot to do with what we hear and see. If you are only exposed to certain things thru a third party and do no research for yourself, then of course you will have a one-sided, narrow minded view. In all things there are good and bad. I don't know if it's accurate to call someone else's "art" bad (since I do not have the ability to do it myself) but there are certain songs being played today that I think is very degrading to certain groups of people. So I choose not to listen, promote, or buy that music. So in essence, if you want them to like the music you feel you like so much, expose them to different rappers (i.e. Mos Def, the Roots, Black Eyed Peas) if they still say they don't like it, then hey buddy they have the right not to.
